Dan Rubenstein was greatly influenced by the difficulties he suffered in his younger years that forced him very early on to analyze the meaning of existence. This focus explains the particularly meditative and often even transcendental dimensions of his work and his remarkable ability to grasp the way people think and feel. A great source of understanding and insight for Rubenstein came from the beauty of the Hebrew language. The letters of the Hebrew alphabet do not only give pronunciation, but every letter has a name and numerical value. These elements bring a rich world of legends and allegories by which our human existence is illuminated and this is evident in his work. This exhibit will feature 13 of his colored etchings entitled Purim.

Dan Rubenstein was born in 1949 in Nathanya, Israel and started to paint at the age of 25. He came to Switzerland in 1954 for further education at the Kunstgewerbe Schule (an art school) in Zurich. The first exhibition of his works was in 1968 at Max Bolag's Gallery in Zurich. He has exhibited his works throughout the United States and Europe. In the past nine years, he has repeatedly exhibited in Gstaad at the Yehundi Menuhin Festival as well as in Zurich, where he lives with his family. He was honored for his work on the Book of Esther by the David Salomon-Steinberg Foundation.
