The goal of rehabilitation therapy is to assist residents in regaining mobility and increasing range of motion and strengthening of muscles. Speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy are available at Selfhelp to assist residents in relearning daily living skills such as dressing, bathing, eating and swallowing.
Therapeutic recreation is an important part of the restorative process. Activities such as discussing current events, as well as exercise classes serve to increase awareness and improve the resident's mental and physical health.
As part of our fine dining program, residents are served by wait staff in our rooftop garden dining room. Delicious kosher meals are accompanied by classical music, creating an inviting atmosphere and making meals a time to socialize with friends.
Our staff has received training from a leading expert on Alzheimer's Care on how to work with cognitively impaired patients. The staff utilizes innovative activities and therapies that allow us to accommodate residents with special needs.
Selfhelp offers a special respite program designed to provide some "time off" for the spouses and caregivers of residents with impaired capabilities. This program is called "The Shalom Group" and residents who participate spend the day doing activities such as art therapy and sensory stimulation excercises, as well as visiting and reminiscing with friends over lunch.
