The holidays are very festive at Selfhelp and many of the activities focus on bringing families together. During Passover, tables are set up to accommodate large families and there are two Seders, one for the nursing home residents and one for the more independent residents.

Whether we're celebrating Chanukah, Purim, Rosh Hashana or Yom Kippur, there is a great deal of excitement as residents enjoy a delicious homemade meal featuring traditional foods and the companionship of their family and friends. Everyone is welcome at Selfhelp and our guests often span many generations.

But celebrations at Selfhelp don't end with the holidays. Rarely a week goes by that something isn't happening. Whether it's a Sunday Concert featuring a well known artist or a special dinner for someone's birthday or anniversary, there's always a reason to get together and enjoy each other's company.

Friday nights are also special. Selfhelp bakes its own challah each week. It is a very traditional type of German bread called berches and for many residents, it evokes fond memories.

Selfhelp is a friendly place--a place where families gather and new friends are found.
